It is amazing to me how many common this problem is with Corvette or really cars in general. I’m convinced that most of the time the problem is related to residues or dirt buildup on the windshield itself. I don’t know how many times I have simply cleaned the windshield really good and fixed the problem.
Here is how I go about cleaning the windshield:
1. With a micro fiber towel , first wipe down the windshield using windex or an equivalent glass cleaner to get the dirt off.
2. Now this is a trick I learned from a detailer that gets all of the bonded crap off the glass and it really works. What you do is basically clay bar the glass. If you have never clay bared your vette (you probably need to), but anyways what it involves is spraying a lubricant on the surface which is included in the kit. You then rub the clay bar over the surface and it picks up all the dirt into the clay and leaves a very smooth surface that you can tell by rubbing your fingers over it. It should feel smooth to the touch as opposed to gritty. As you rub the clay over the glass, make sure to occasionally kneed the clay to get a clean section of clay to work with.
3. After I have finished with the clay, I now take another micro fiber towel and wipe the windshield down with vinegar to get any remaining residue off.
4. Finally I finish up by wiping the glass down with windex again for a finished shine.
If your wipers are still chattering, you may want to inspect the wipers first for any obvious play and make sure they are bolted down good to the wiper studs. If they are, you probably want to go ahead and replace the wipers with a quality set of oem wiper blades
